Products that are Good and Bad for Curly Hair

Buying the right kind of hair products for curly hair is undoubtedly a difficult task. Not every other product that you see in the market is suitable for your curls. Here’s a list of hair products for curly hair that are essential for curls; and another list that states products that aren’t good for curly haired people.

Hair products that Curly Haired People Must Have

  • Curly hair shampoo and conditioner: Don’t just buy any other shampoo that you like in the store. Look for one that is made for curly hair. Also, be certain that the shampoo you add to your cart has lightweight ingredients as heavy chemicals weigh down the curls. Also, do not get attracted by shampoos that have very fruity fragrances; most of the shampoos with strong fragrances do not contain natural oils. Also, you must get a conditioner for curly hair. Make sure it contains moisturizers like yogurt and olive oil. ‘Curls’ has a great range of wonderful shampoos and conditioners for curly hair; do check them out.
  • Comb: Get a nice comb for your curls, preferably one made of wood and that has widely spaced teeth. Avoid plastic combs as they break away easily.
  • Olive, Almond, Coconut or Mustard Oil: Get any one of these oils and oil your hair twice a week, preferably two hours before washing your curls. A good way of finding which oil works best for your hair is to apply each oil on your hair once and examine its results on your hair by checking how soft your hair becomes after washing. These oils nourish the curls and add moisture to them.

Hair Products for Curl Hair that People should Avoid

  • Hair Straighteners: Heating your hair excessively destroys the quality of your hair so avoid buying straighteners for your hair. But if you really enjoy straightening your hair then get hold of a flat iron with a ceramic coating; make sure it is of a good brand and do not purchase any cheap straighteners. Even with a good straightener, avoid straightening your hair more than twice a week.
  • Hair Brushes: Hair brushes aren’t friendly with curls and destroy the texture of the curls so always try to avoid using one on your curls.

Tips for Dry And Itchy Scalp During Winter

Thursday’s Textured Tip: Is your scalp dry and itchy during the cold winter months? Chances are, most of us experience this issue. Here’s a quick remedy…

Mix 2 parts natural oil with 1 part essential oil, apply directly to the scalp 1-3x a week.

Here are some of my favorites!

  • Tea tree oil is an anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial, germicide that stimulates scalp, cells, and hair follicles.
  • Rosemary relieves pain from extreme itchiness and dryness and increases circulation to scalp.
  • Lavender alleviates itchiness.
  • Lemon helps with dryness and activates sebum glands.

Amazing Black Curly Hair Care Tips

Not long ago I was a victim of frizzy and extremely outrageous hair. I am a black woman and have always had really dry and tightly wounded hair; though I was happy with my curls but the dryness always bothered me. As I grew up, my curls became kinkier than before and people started making jokes on my hair too, this enraged me a lot and pushed me to research about African American kinky curly hair care.

African American kinky curly hair care is not too hard, it just demands you to be persistent, patient with your hair and take care of them on a regular basis. First, you need to replace your hair brush with a quality, wooden comb.Hair brushes make curly hair rougher and harder, on the other hand combs make your hair softer and do not split up curly hair. When you switch your hair brush with a nice comb, you should start focusing on proper curly hair care. Follow these simple tips for African American kinky curly hair care and get smooth hair within a month.

  • Wash your hair twice or thrice a week, washing kinky hair every day dehydrates them and drains the life out of them. Also use a good quality shampoo and conditioner for curly hair like Pure Curls Clarifying Shampoo and Coconut Sublime Conditioner.
  • Apply a generous amount of mustard or coconut oil to your hair every time before washing them. Make sure that you massage the oil very gently on your hair and scalp, rough massaging will deteriorate the condition of your hair.
  • Use this wonderful mask for your hair twice a week. It did wonders for me and will surely help you too. Blend 1 ripe banana (peeled), 1 ripe avocado (peeled) and 1 tablespoon of olive oil together and apply to your hair after shampooing them. Cover your hair with a damp towel and keep the mask on for about 20 minutes, after that rinse your hair. Within 2 weeks your hair will become softer and shinier.

Naturally Curly Hair

Naturally curly hair is indeed difficult to maintain but with persistent care, you can get rid of your curly hair problems and transform your harsh, terrible looking curls into soft, silky, shiny and smooth curls. You need to give time to your hair, understand its nature, and use products accordingly. In addition, before starting any rejuvenating hair regime for your kinky hair, you need to practice basic hair care tips.

Basic hair care tips for naturally curly hair include washing and conditioning your hair thoroughly. Shampoo your scalp thoroughly and massage it while the shampoo is in your hair; after that rinse your hair with cold water and condition them. When you have finished shampooing and conditioning your hair, comb through gently. In addition, you should comb your hair regularly especially before styling. This basic hair care will drastically improve your hair’s quality.

Besides using these basic hair care tips, you should get a good quality mousse or hair gel for your hair. Curls souffle is an excellent conditioning cream for naturally curly hair that locks in moisture. Use it on your hair whenever you want to style it; it will give moisture and volume to your curls making them velvety and shiny. You can also use hair balm to smooth out your curls; rub the balm in your palm and fingers first and then gently comb your fingers through your hair; your hair will become lighter and smoother.

Do try these amazing tips and feel the difference in your hair.
