Q: My son and daughter are biracial. Their hair is very full/thick and has some loose curl at the ends, which are also dry (especially my daughter as her hair is longer). My son wakes up with some pretty frizzy bedhead. What can you recommend for them? Thanks so much! Susan

Mahisha: Your son’s hair sounds a lot like my little tyke. He is 15 months old. Here is the routine that I use for his curls. I shampoo once a week maximum with a baby shampoo. I am still using tearless for him as he wiggles and refuses to sit still. I always condition his hair, with our Curly Q Coconut Dream conditioner. I allow it to sit on his hair for five minutes and then I rinse well. I immediately apply a few drops of avocado oil on his hair and brush through with his baby brush. The next morning I refresh his hair with a little Moist Curls moisturizer and his curls just pop! On the days that I do not shampoo, I just rinse his hair, apply Coconut Dream, allow it to sit for 5 minutes, rinse well.and proceed with the other steps.

Give this a try…let us know how it works! (more…)

Our favorite time of year is finally here - Summer! With it comes the daily assault of taxing chlorine compounds, drying sea salt, and damaging sun rays - not to mention all of the havoc we wreck on our angel’s hair from daily styling fax pas.

Chlorine and salt water both dry, discolor, and damage hair. Chlorine binds to the hair, filling in gaps in the hair shaft. Mineral deposits in salt water make hair brassy and brittle. Both severely dehydrate hair. Imagine how these elements affect delicate, kinky/curly hair which tends to be much drier than straight hair. It is imperative that you (1) take preventative steps to avoid damaged, lifeless hair, (2) moisturize your child’s hair on a daily basis to replenish moisture lost, and (3) take the time to incorporate a quality summer hair care regime.

Here are a few summertime tips that will keep damaged, split, brittle, frizzy hair away, so you can enjoy the summer without worry. (more…)
