How to style your Curls?

Monday, December 17th, 2007

If you have a curly mane, then your styling options are limited. The best option for you may be to sport a long blunt. This will help you control your split ends and will also keep your hair under control. The shorter you cut your hair, the curlier it will get. So if you keep it a bit long, the curls will relax. However if you have a small face with sharp features, then you can sport a smart look with short hair.

If you have tight curls, then you must avoid razor cutting as well as shears thinning. Thinning crushes your hair ends and razors encourage split ends. If you have very thick hair then you must get your hair done in order to remove the volume and make it more manageable. If your curls are not too well defined then you can go for long layers. It gives a stunning effect if you dry such hair naturally or at max blow dry.

You must consult a good stylist for styling your hair. They can guide you on which haircut will suit you best. You must also confide in him regarding the time and money you are willing to invest in grooming and maintaining your hair. You must be totally honest. Only then will he be in a position to guide you in a way that will benefit you.

Tips for long hair:

If you have curly hair, then it is very easy to manage a long hairstyle. The length of the hair helps to weigh the hair down and keep it manageable. You need to trim regularly in order to maintain the style. You can use hair serum or wax if you want a damp and casual look. You can also scrunch it to give it more volume. You can also use large curling iron if you want loose curls. For tighter ones you will need a small curling iron.

Tips for short hair:

You can also sport a smart look in short hairstyle. You can wear your hair a little above your shoulders. You can use sculpture lotions to keep the curls in shape. You can also scrunch your hair while it is still wet if you want volume to your hair. Curly hair can be very fizzy. So you will need to condition your hair and use a gel. Use bobby pins to keep the curls in place.

Curly hair looks great if styled and maintained properly.

Taking care of your curls

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Passé are the days when straight hair was considered to be stylish. Now curls are the in thing. And if you have some natural curls then nothing like it. When you were young with head full of curls then you looked adorable. But to your horror you find that as you grow, those cute soft curls have become totally unmanageable and frizzy. In fact the other day you looked like Medusa!

So what do you do now to get that adorable look back?

Well, you need to shampoo your hair and remove tangles with the help of a wide toothed comb. You must also use a good detangling product. Since curls tend to be frizzy naturally you need to take extra care of curly hair as compared to straight hair. You must use a shampoo that is free of sulphate formulation. You can wash your hair every alternate day but you must ensure that you use a conditioner on the days you do not shampoo. Since curly hair is very frizzy, you must go for a moisturizing treatment at least twice every month. You must also let your hair dry naturally as and when it is possible to do so.

New study proves that curly hair tangles less than straight hair

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

In an interesting experiment, french biophysicist Jean-Baptiste Masson practicing at the Ecole Polytechnique in France proved that curly hair gets less tangled than straight hair. In the two fold experiment, he consulted hairdressers and asked them to count tangles in hair of people with straight hair and curly hair. On a theory level, he formulated a geometrical hair.

The week long study threw up remarkable results; straight hair got tangled two times more than curly hair. Masson explained the results using the geometrical hair he had developed. Though straight hairs interact less with each other vis-à-vis curly hair but straight hair interacts at steep angles that cause tangles.

Masson who’s specialization is biophysics, said that this finding could help in making significant advances in Velcro like technology.
