My curls have given me quite a tough time throughout my life and I have suffered a lot because of them especially during my teenage years. However for the last 3 years, I have found some relief to this problem. I researched this issue and found some curly hair care tips that have actually improved my hair’s condition.
Before following any curly hair care advice, you need to realize one very important thing: be thankful for the hair you have and accept it. Once you are at peace with your curls, you need to start taking care of them. Curly hair care requires four important tools:
- A comb
- Excellent quality shampoo and conditioner
- Olive, coconut or olive oil
- Leave-in conditioner or hair smoothening gel
Get hold of these tools and when you have them, you need to practice these tips on a regular basis:
- Comb your hair softly at least three or four times a day; be very gentle when you are combing as harsh combing can cause your curls to split, become brittle and break.
- Apply olive, coconut, or mustard oil to your hair and massage your hair softly. Leave the oil in your hair for four hours if your hair is oily but if it is dry, you can leave it in your hair overnight. Oil will soften your curls and make them silkier.
- Wash your hair at least twice a week; washing it three times is fine too but try not to wash it every day as that will make your curls dry & brittle. Moreover, condition your hair after shampooing; apply the conditioner to your tips and smooth out your hair when you condition it. Do not leave the conditioner in your hair for more than 5 minutes. After that, wash your hair with cold water; avoid washing your curls with warm water as it will adversely affect your hair.
- After you shampoo your hair, apply a hair smoothening gel to your hair before styling it. If your curls are extremely rough you can also use a leave-in conditioner, it will keep your hair moist and smooth throughout the day.

Living in a family where half of the women have curly hair, I know quite a lot about how to tackle kinky hair. Managing curly hair is quite a menace but if you follow simple curly hair advice,you can get beautiful looking curls easily.
Primarily, you need to get in touch with a good hair specialist and know your hair type. Once, you are done with this step, visit actual curly hair user reviews on the site to review their recommendations on some good quality shampoo and conditioner that suits your hair type. Shampoo your hair about three times a week and never forget to condition it; shampooing kinky hair daily can worsen your curls and make them rough so shampoo only twice or thrice a week. Moreover, another very useful curly hair point of advice that I have learnt from my aunt is to apply olive oil to your curls three to four hours prior to washing them; olive oil smooths out your curls and gives them shine. Practice this handy tip and within three weeks, you will notice a great change in your rough looking curls.
All the aforementioned points of curly hair advice are very helpful but they will not benefit you unless and until you get rid of your hairbrush. Yes, you need to throw your hair brush far away from your curls because hairbrushes are very harmful for kinky hair; hairbrush splits up curls and aggravates the coarseness of kinky hair. Replace your hair brush with a comb that has widely spaced teeth; combs improve texture of curls and also keep your scalp smooth. Comb your hair before and after washing your hair; brush wet hair from tips first so the tangles can smooth out.

For those who wish to care for their curly hair, first and foremost is to find the right shampoo. Buy creamier shampoos instead of clarifying or clear shampoos, as the creamy shampoos are designed to condition your hair. Conditioning hair softens it and is when your curls will actually ‘behave.’ Although, keep in mind that you shouldn’t condition your hair all the time, instead just get hold of a good quality heavy conditioner and use it while washing your hair. Moreover, make sure you stay away from straightening irons and curling wands. They roughen your hair in the long run, causing split ends and hair loss. To save your hair from getting frizzy, do not towel-dry because, unfortunately, this increases friction between the strands of hair, which leads to the hair being frizzy after you dry it out and you are likely to end up with a bird nest on your head.
Those of you who consider caking your hair with truckloads of hair products – you should beware! These products smooth your curly hair and make it look beautiful for a while, but tend to have numerous side effects, due to various chemicals present in them. However, if you must, then search out alcohol-free serums and gels.
Lastly, learn to love your hair. Curly hair is gorgeous and rare in women, if cared for and treated properly; they could be a sign of absolute beauty.
