Jacqui, it took me roughly a year before I fully cut off all of my relaxed (straight ends). I first started off by doing a mini-cut and then every 3 or 4 months I would take a little bit more of my relaxed ends. As, I started out with shoulder length hair and I didn't opt to get the BC done because I didn't want to lose most of my length.

In April of 2005, I cut off the last of my relaxed ends and proudly could say that I was now natural. As, my hair natural curl was in full effect and there were no more straight, relaxed pieces or straight (relaxed) ends on my hair that I could visibly see anymore.

So, overall it took me a year to transition. At first, it seemed like it was going to take forever, but after I reached the 6 month mark, those months just started whizzing by. And, I will tell you something else. I am personally glad that I did opt for a long transition, as it allowed me the oppportunity to get to know and learn more about my hair. As, I definitely feel that before anyone decides to transition or even get the BC done, they need to educate themself thoroughly by reading books on how to properly take care of natural hair, learn what short or long natural hairstyles are available, and learn how one's decision to go natural can change their relationship with family, friends, or even one's self.
