I'm posting pics of my three girls who I believe are Types 2, 4, and 3 (left to right in the pic. A=2, K=4, L=3). My 2 has very fine, shiny, ringlets. My oldest (Type 4?) has tight coils that will become defined when moistened in the a.m., but frizz/fray by the end of the day. My youngest (Type 3?) has VERY thick, course, (wavy?) hair on the outside, but more defined ringlets underneath (the nape of the neck, for example). I'm including a few pictures so that you can see their hair and help me figure out: 1) what hair types they actually do have, and 2) where I'm going wrong in our regimen:
1. Sunday shampooing (CD conditioning rosemary/peppermint shampoo) and conditioning (with your CurlyQs conditioner)
--Wednesday "co-wash" (with the same CurlyQs conditioner)
2. Detangle (I used CurlyQs until I ran out, then a kids' formula in a purple bottle w/pink spray pump) and combout.
3. CurlyQs Milkshake (Do I need the custard for my 3 and 4?)
4. Tea Tree oil or Tui oil for the scalp (only on 3 and 4...again, too oily for my Type 2.)
5. Loose braids for sleeping
6. Remove braids in morning, respray with detangler, style hair (usually braids, twists, or cornrows. It's too long now for cute puffs.) Sometimes I'll use a natural pomade to hold down my 3's and 4's edges, but by the end of the school day, their edges are standing straight out! And occasionally I'll detangle then add a bit of the Milkshake to my 2 and "scrunch" her hair to add bounce.
Thanks for any suggestions and for helping me figure out which hair types they really have!
Picture explanations: All three: A (type 2?) on left, K (type 4? very fine, but curly/kinky) in middle, L (type 3? more wavy, but also defined curls/waves underneath...can't tell in this pic since she has twists)...Middle pic is K with twists...See the new growth?...Right pic is L just out of the shower with outer layers already dry. (This is how it looks after combing in shower with conditioner and blotting with towel to get the major drips. It still tangles easily, so I do the combout in sections and braid loosely for bed. They all sleep on satin pillowcases, and K wears a bonnet, too. I think a scarf would be better to hold her styles in overnight, but Mom needs to learn how to tie a scarf that will stay on through lots of rolling around!
