I have a two year old daughter and her hair looks great after a conditioning rinse( which I have switched to ding once a week only b/c she gets food in her hair alot) But she pulls her scrunchis off and then her hair looks crazy in the morning. I can't get her to wear a scarf. I use Curly Q Milkshake on her very tight curls. They look like short spiral curls. I recently started french braiding her hair. Should I do that after a conditioning rinse and shoud I use the custard b/c her hair is very thick.I tried the custard on her hair and it seemed to get a little poofy/frizzy but I don't have the moisturizer yet so that could be a problem. Sorry for the long sentence. Also, my 10 mos old son has very fine hair I was wondering what I should use for him when he gets too old for It's a Curl products.

Baybelle, you can of course use the Custard on your daughter's hair when you want her to wear it down or when you want to braid it. I wholeheartedly recommend that you use Moist Curls first before applying applying the Custard as it is the perfect prep product for the CurlyQ stylers.
Of course now, your baby is a perfect candidate for the It's Your Curls line. Now, when he gets around the age your daughter is now, you can switch him over to using the CurlyQ products. As, it is a line that both young children can use on their natural curls whether they are a boy or girl.
Because, he is a baby his hair will be fine in texture. So, your using very delicate products on his hair is of course the best route to go. But, of course, as he matures a bit, you should begin noticing changes in his hair texture and porosity(how fast or slow his hair absorbs product). As, this will give you a better idea on what products from the CurlyQ line would possibly work best for him.

Thanks for the tips. Should I not use the milkshake on her hair when I want to braid it or maybe a better question is when should I use the milkshake. Her hair needs a lot of moisture b/c she rubs it out when she sleeps at night.

Baybelle, you can of course alternate between the Milkshake and Custard. Now, you can use either product on the hair, just not both at the same time.
Also, Moist Curls is designed to be used in any of the CurlyQ stylers, by the way.
Now, when it comes to choosing which product to use on your child's hair, the state of your child's hair will tell you. If it is feeling extra dry, is rather tangled or matted, then using a heavier product like the Custard would be best. And, if it looks slightly dry or dehydrated or the style you plan to put your child's hair in requires a smoother look to it, then it would be best to go with a lighter product like the Milkshake.
Hope this helps!

What is the difference?
Hi, I've used only the shampoo & conditioner (Curly Q's). I'm getting ready to re-order and want to order the proper styling product as well. My daughter is italian/american-african/american. She has super thick hair (from me) and super tight curls (from my husband). I put it up every day but it would be great to occasionally wear it down. However, when we do there is the "poof" and it grows all day long. What is the difference between the Custard and the Milkshake? I want something that will naturally pull out the "poof" and show how long her hair truly is. It is just past her shoulders (she is almost 4) but you couldn't tell when it is down. Also, how often should I shampoo her hair. With summer coming and all the time we spend at the pool I want to make sure I give her hair all the love it needs. She is also starting pre-school in the fall so we want a regime that is effective but also not too time consuming each and every morning. Please let me know what products would be best for us.
Thanks - love your new forum - this is a wonderful way for moms with similair needs to communicate.
P.S. Tried MC products and they left her hair feeling dry (after shampooing and conditioning) and the leave in conditioner left her hair feeling like I'd poured Elmer's Glue in it. Just wanted you to know your products "shine" above the rest.

The CurlyQ Custard is a rich and creamy custard like cream that defines curls, gives them weight, and adds shine. It is designed to be used on medium or coarse curls and it gives medium hold to the hair. It gives the CurlyQ Milkshake is a lighter weight cream that acts as a leave-in + styler. It acts as curl reviver, softener, and hydrator. And, it is designed to be used on medium or coarse curls and give light hold to the hair.
So, the Milkshake is lighter cream that will give a more smoother look to your daughter's curls. While, on the other hand, the Custard is a richer cream that will add more weight to your daughter's curls to make them lay down better. If you can, I would suggest you picking up both products and just alternating back and forth between the two. As, both products will help to better hydrate and tame your daughter's curls. Or, you can buy one-full size Milkshake or Custard and just ask for samples of the other product in the Comments section (upon checking out). Because, with each Curls order you can ask for up to 3 samples of other products.
Also, when it comes to using any of the Curly Q stylers, it is always best that you use Moist Curls Moisturizer first. As, this product acts as the perfect base for any of the CurlyQ stylers.
For detangling, always use a wide-toothed comb to do so and always make sure that you do it when your daughter's hair is wet, has been sprayed with Moist Curls first, or has loads of conditioner in it. So, there's three options for you when it comes to when you can use a comb in your daughter's hair. Now, when it comes to using a brush, I suggest that you use a 100 percent boar bristle brush. You can use a brush when it comes to your needing to brush your daughter's hair back into a ponytail or even when you prefer to brush it back into a bun. And, then I would suggest you spraying your daughter's hair with Moist Curls first, applying styling product to it, and then proceeding to brush your daughter's hair.
Never, brush your daughter's hair when it is dry, as this will cause major frizz and it can cause a lot of hair to come out as well. And, after washing and conditioning your daughter's hair always, lightly blot any excess drippies away and never rub the hair vigorously to dry it.
Oh, it is best to shampoo and condition your daughter's hair once a week. However, you can do a nightly conditioner rinse or even just do a conditioner-rinse mid-week (at night) only, if you prefer. Also, after you daughter has finished swimming, it would be a good idea to do a conditioner rinse to remove the chlorine and other pollutants from her hair (without waiting until her next shampoo day to do so).
And, I truly understand how you feel about the MC products. As, I tried products from that line too and it left my hair dry and feeling like glue. But, with any of the Curls products you certainly will never have to worry about that.
Thanks so much for joining the Curls forum !

Any updated pictures than on the website. None of those seem to be hers. She has like lowercase s curls in the front & back and longer uppercase almost wavey in the middle. It frizzes when left down/out.

Yes, it would be way to early for you to begin using the Curls Asian Hair Tea Conditioner on your 2 year's daughter's head. As, her scalp woud be too sensitive to use a product designed for other's much maturer in age. The Curly Q Coconut Dream Conditioner is designed to work for someone her age. This conditioner will provide maximum moisturization and conditioning to your daughter's hair. And, afte rtryimh it on your daughter's hair, I'm sure that you will see an increase in her hair's moisture level.
From what you have mentioned, it seems like your daughter has 3B curls in the middle, and 3C curls in the front and back of her head. Now, if you could upload pictures of her hair (in its current state) and post it here, then that would be a great big help in giving you a more accurate hair typing.
Curly hair comes in many various textures. So, if you don't necesssarily see a picture that provides an exact match for your daughter's hairtype(s) don't fret. As, this is the case for a lot of curlies.

Princess & her HAIR!!!
I have a two-year old daughter who is bi-racial ( I am Ghanian and her father is Eygptian) and her hair is a mix like no other. Mira's hair is very soft, curly and kinky in some areas. Before I started to use your products I would wash her hair with baby Aveeno and apply Palmer's Olive Oil hair grease. You would think that I would have known better but it was a lesson. To fast foward I love the way her hair smells after I wash it with the Creamy Cleanser, I moisturize with the Moisture Curls and I follow-up with the Milkshake. Her hair is very dry the next day. I have even attempted to gease her scalp with your products and that does not work either. I am doing something wrong? Mira likes to wear ponytails with barettes (other kids @ the day care have them) and she likes beads as well. I don't like to french braid her hair so I only do it maybe 1 time every 2-3 months. When I don't use Palmers Olive Oil on her head she scratches until her scalp is red and bruised with little bumps ( I have been mindful about not pulling the ponytails too tight). When I try to let her wear her hair just Curly she cries and goes to get the hair bin and asks me to comb it! I don't know what I am doing wrong. I also want to know if you have any products that will grow her hair. MIra has long hair in the front, but in the back she is bald (She does not have enough to grab in a ponytail in the lower center of her head). Is there anything I could use? I usually wash her hair once every 2-3 weeks, should I wash more frequently? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

Hello!
Well, after washing your daughter's hair with the Curlie Cutie Cleansing Cream, next it is recommended that you follow up with the Coconut Dream Conditioner. After rinsing out the Conditioner, you would spray your daughter's hair all over with the Moist Curls. After spraying your daughter's hair with the Moist Curls, you would then work on one section of your daughter's hair at a time. You would take a section, start detangling that section working from the tip of the hair all the way up to the root. For detangling, you can use your fingers, a wide toothed comb, or a brush. For her age, I would suggest you buying a Baby Denman Brush, or any other small 100 percent boar bristle brush.
After detangling, you would take styling cream apply it to the hair, always making sure to thoroughly smooth it through. Once, finished, twist the section w/ your fingers in order to make a single twist. Next, you would move on to the next section. Don't do big twists, but instead focus on doing smaller twists, so they will be less likely to come aloose, while your daughter sleeps. And, after you finish one twist, you just move on to another section of hair, detangle, apply product, and twist.
Remember, you can put as many twists in your daughter's hair as you like.
Once, you have finished twisting your dsaughter's entire head, You would just let her airdry.
Now, your daughter's hair needs to be thoroughly cleansed once a week. And, after throroughly cleansing your daughter's hair with the Curlie Cutie Cleansing Cream, it always needs to be followed up with a conditioning product.
In the morning, you can do twistouts. Now, I don't know how severe your daughter's hair breakage, but I can tell you this. Using, products with ingredients in it that clog the hair follicle and don't allow it to breathe will cause breakage. And, overmanipulation or unproper care can cause that as well.
I understand that you had early on started using Aveeno and the Palmers Olive Oil Hair Grease on your daughters hair. The Aveeno actually isn't as mild a cleanser as it claims for all hairtypes. As, biracial and black children's hair are too dry for such a cleanser. Also, the Palmer's Hair Grease is bad for a two year old's much less an adults hair. As, these off-the-shelf hair greaes often do more harm than good. They don't fully penetrate the hair shaft, but instead lay on top and just give a false sense of hydration to the hair. And, they are also notorious for clogging one's hair follicles and causing hair breakage.
Because, your daughter's hair seems to be very porous and absorbs product like a sponge, I suggest you ordering the CurlyQ Custard. As, it wil give your daughter's hair maximum hydration and give great definition to your daughter's hair.
The CurlQ line of products have hair strengthening ingredients in them and this in turn will help your daughter's hair to thrive better. And, by keeping your daughter's scalp clean and un-clogged then that will promote the perfect environment for healthy hair growth.
Now, because your daughter is only 2, she definitely is too young to use any type of hair growth serums or enhancers on her scalp. As, her scalp is too sensitive for that.
Whenever, you want to put your daughter's hair into a ponytail, you always spray Moist Curls first all over the head. Second, you apply the styling product next. Lastly, you brush your daughter's hair back into a ponytail. After your daughter's hair has been secured into a ponytail, you can apply a little bit of the Radiant Ringlet's(if you are interested in purchasing) around the hairline and nape to smooth it out and on the hair sticking out from the ponytail as well.
When you want to put you daughter's hair in braids, you would take a section of hair and first spray it with Moist Curls. Second, you would detangle the section, working from the bottom up to the top. Third, you would apply styling product to it making sure to thoroughly smooth it through. Lastly, you would then braid that section, move on to another section, and just repeat the whole process again. After braiding, you would just apply a little bit of Radiant Ringlets around your daughter's hairline and nape to smooth it down.
Also, when your daughter goes to take her bath, try putting a plastic cap on her head to protect it from getting wet between hair washes. They sell the clear plastic caps all over the place, so you shouldn't have a problem finding them.
Good luck!
