Default Caring for Your Angel's Curly Q's with...Curly Q's

Curly Q Parents,

I have outlined a few key instructions for proper use of our Curly Q products. Feel free to add your success stories and/or questions here!

Instructions:
Day 1- Step #1 Cleanse with Curlie Cutie Cleansing Cream
• Step 2 Condition with Coconut Dream conditioner.
Apply step #3 – Moist Curls moisturizer generously throughout hair. Follow up with step #4 – one of our styling products - Curly Q Milkshake or Curly Q Custard (or Curly Q Princess Glaze for fine curly hair that requires stronger hold). Apply a small amount (~ size of a quarter) of the styling product of choice on each section (~6-8 sections for the entire head) of hair starting the nape of the neck (part the hair across from ear to ear working up to the hair line). Braid in platts overnight to secure moisture and curl formation.
Day 2 - Freshen up the hair with Moist Curls moisturizer in the am to aid with detangling and to revive the curl. Also, use Moist Curls at night, braid hair and leave in until the am. Touch up areas, as needed, with your styling product of choice.

Default Daughter's hair still seems dry after using products

I've been meaning to ask what I am doing wrong because I use the products every day (moist curls moisturizer, milkshake, curly Q custard) but morning her hair seems dry. I just read where you said to apply the moist curls moisturizer and then braid it up at night. Will this help? If so, I have to stop being lazy and braid it up every night!

Thanks!

hello,

well, first of all, you do not want/need to use both stylers (Curly Q Milkshake, Curly Q Custard) at the same time, use one or the other....after moisturizing with Moist Curls.

post your entire regime and we can help spot the red flags.

also, how often do you shampoo/condition?
are you using other products from a different line?
do you moisturize daily?

Question

I have a daughter with beautiful hair. Oh my goodness is it a project to brush and keep looking nice. She has so much hair and she is extremely tender headed, that I don't do as much with it because I don't want to hurt her. I usually to wash it one a week and put it up and leave it until the next wash. Will her hair be less tangled if I take it out every night? I am a single mom with little time to do that. We leave the house so early (6:30 up by 5:30) that I do not really have time to put it up everyday. What suggestions can you make? Her hair is really soft, long about to her waist (she is 4'9"), very poofy if left alone but just a real nightmare to brush and style. I hate to hurt her but I want her to have nice hair styles. I read the suggestions on how to care for it. I do use your shampoo, conditioner, and moisterizer. She uses the milkshake on it daily. If doing her hair in the morning and at night is what needs to be done then I definately will do it. I heard a rumor that she should not get her hair wet everyday that it causes the hair to tangle more. Is that true? Do you take the hair out of the covered bands before she gets in the shower? I know this is alot to ask but I want to be sure I am doing everything I can for my little girl. Thanks for the help.

I usually use the milkshake when her hair is really dry and the custard when I am doing two-strand twist pony tails, after moisturizing of course!

I try to shampoo her hair at least once a week. I use the cleansing cream and the coconut sublime. If I am out, I use Nexxus products, Therapy shampoo and Humectris or the Keraphix conditioners. I use the Asian Tea conditioner at least once a month, maybe longer, with the heatcap from your site.

AfterI shampoo and condition, I use the moist curls moisturizer and milkshake while it is still wet and plat it up. I think my problem is during the week. I have allowed her to go to sleep with out doing anything to her hair. It may be up in one ponytail. I will take it down in the morning and moisturize it and putit back up , but it is very dry in the morning.

Default my little girls hair gets dry

Hi I use your products on my daughter's hair. The problem I am is seeing is that when we leave her hair down during the day it looks really nice in the morning. However later in the day the hair underneath is so tangled and knotted and the hair on top is so dry and rough. I use the moisturizer and have tried both the milkshake and custard. Am I not using enough? I feel so bad she loves having her hair down but it always ends up looking so rough! Please help

Here's some much needed helpful information:

On wash day, wash and deep condition your daughter hair with the recommended products from th Curly Q's line (Curlie Cutie Cleansing Cream and Coconut Cream Conditioner). After rinsing out the conditioner, section your daughter's hair off into 4 parts. Take down a section, spray it with Moist Curls Moisturizer, and then begin detangling that sction always working from the bottom upwards. After detangling, proceed to braid that section. And, at the end of the braid make sure to put a twistie or scrunchie on it to keep the braid from coming loose. Now, once you have finished braiding the first section, then you just repeat the same practice over again-spray, detangle, braid.

The next morning, you would take down the braids. Next spray a few sprays of Moist Curls Moisturizer all over your daughter's hair, making sure to spray your hair from the top working on down to the ends. Now, if you want to put your daughter's hair in a ponytail, apply about the size of a half dollar of the CurlyQ Milkshake to your daughter's hair (you can add more if your daughter's hair is very dry or relatively thick) and evenly distribute it all over your daughter's head. Lastly, you would comb the product through and just pull your daughter's hair back into a ponytail and use a scrunchie or barrette to affix the ponytail into place. Another styling option would be a long single braid down her back. Also, for special occasions you can let her wear her hair completely down, and just just replace the CurlyQ Milkshake with the Custard.

At night inbetween hairwashings, you would just simply take her hair out of the single braid or ponytail. And, next simply place the child's hair in a low ponytail. Your child's hair doesn't need to be combed twice day, unless you wash it everyday. But, because your child's hair is prone to tangling it is always best to comb it by first dampening it in the morning with the Moist Curls Moisturizer first. As, it will allow the comb to glide better through your child's hair.

Oh and by the way, I just wanted to clear something up about wetting or rinsing the hair down every day with water only. Water alone is dehydrating to the hair. Which is why, it is best to do conditioner rinses on the hair if you feel the need to lightly cleanse it inbetween your regular washings.

Good luck! And, if you have any more questions, definitely feel free to ask them at any time!

What is the length and exactly how thick is your child's hair? If your child's hair is thick or below shoulder length, then I would suggest you using a bit more than a quarter's worth of product at a time on your child's hair. As, you will certainly need to adjust the amount of product that you use in your child's hair according to your child's hairlenght and/or thickness.

Now, of course when children are outside playing their hair will get ruffed up unfortunately. So, I would suggest you doing this in the morning: Spraying your child's hair evenly with the Moist Curls Moisturizer (about 5-7 sprays should be enough). Next, apply the CurlyQ Custard, always making sure to emulsify it a bit before applying. Now, as I said before, that amount that you would be slightly more than is usually recommended, if your daughter has BSL and/or thick hair. Once you have finished evenly distributing the CurlyQ Custard all over your child's hair, you would of course let it airdry.

Some days, after applying the Moist Curls Moisturizer you can apply the CurlyQ Milkshake to your child's hair. Next, you would just comb the product through in order to get even distribution. Lastly, you would affix your child's hair into a ponytail using either a scrunchie or pontail holder.

Oh and something else, if you have coconut oil, you can mix a little bit in the palm of your hands with any of the Curly Q stylers. As, it really acts as a wondeful sealing agent when it comes to helping curly hair retain more moisture.

The regimen that you have going with your child's hair is a pretty good one actually. Now, there's nothing wrong with you just putting your child's hair in a ponytail at night. Now, if your child's hair had been washed at night, then of course detangling and adding product to it before bed would definitely be necessary.

In the mornings, I suggest spraying your child's hair with moist Curls Moisturizer. About 5-7 sprays. Next, I suggest (if your child will be wearing their hair down) applying the CurlyQ Custard evenly throughout your child's whole head. Now, the amount you use is really dependent on how long and/or thick your child's hair is. As, you may have to use more than a quarter or even half dollar size in your child's hair by the way. So, don't be afraid to do so. Now, you will know of course if you have used too much if your child's hair feels overly moist to the touch afterwards.

If your child will be wearing a curly pontail, I would suggest you spraying it with Moist Curls first. Then you would apply Curly Q Custard (only because it is more hydrating than the Milkshake) and then comb it through for even distribution and detangling purposes. Next. you would affix your child's hair into a ponytail by using either a scrunchie or a ponytail holder. Never use rubberbands or an elastic ponytail holder to put your child's hair into a ponytail with. Always use something that is soft and that won't break the hair.

If you even want to put your child's hair in individual plaits, you would foolow the same steps with the Moist Curls however you would use the Milkshake instead of the Custard.

With any of the Curly Q stylers, you can mix a little bit of oil with them to really amp the moisture level and softness of your child's hair. Some good hair olis happen to be: jojoba, coconut, pomegranate, etc.

I just thought that I'd add this as it helps me and my little brother combat dryness and frizz. What we do is we tie our heads in a silk or satan scarf and for extra protection sleep on a satan pillow, that way the moisture is being kept on the hair and not transported to the pillow leaving it dryer. (well it works for us, not sure about other people) but hope that helps
