Default newbie - 7 year old biracial hair

My 7 year old biracial daughter has gorgeous hair - I think it's a 3c/4a... It can look absolutely gorgeous when worn down, but typically it doesn't last... by the end of the day, it's frizzy and matted with lots of knots...

I'm looking for the best ways to keep her hair looking great and knot-free. And now that it's summer, she's at camp where she swims every day and plays outdoors - her hair takes quite a beating.

I ordered the Essential sampler kit with Curly Q Custard. Hoping this will help.

Welcome!

Yes, all of the products in the Essential Sampler Kit + Curly Q Custard would work perfect for your daughter. Also, I do suggest that you either get your daughter a satin pillowcase to sleep on or a satin bonnet to put on her head to protect her curlswhile she sleeps. As, curly hair is very prone to tangling and matting.

After, you get the Curly Q products home, here's what I suggest you do:

First, you should wash and condition your daughter's hair first. Now, I do suggest that you use a wide-toothed comb to do a light detangling of your daughter's hair while she has conditioner in it. And, then after the conditioner has been rinsed out, I do suggest you use a natural-boar bristle on your daughter's hair to do a more thorough detangling of her hair. Never rub your daughter's hair dry, just lighly blot it dry after rinsing out the conditioner. As, vigorously rubbing curly hair dry will disrupt the hair's cuticles and cause major frizz.

Now to adequately detangle your daughter's hair, you will need to section off your daughter's hair into 4 parts. However, depending on exactly how thick your daughter's hair is you can certainly do more than 4 parts if needbe. Second, I suggest you taking one section and spraying it from root to tip with the Moist Curls Moisturizer. Third, you will take the natural boar bristle brush and thoroughly detangle the hair from the bottom slowing working your way up to the top. Fourth, you will take the Custard and then apply it to the section of hair, making sure to thoroughly smooth it through. After you have finished applying product to the first section, then just move on to the next section of hair and repeat the whole process mentioned all over again. And, once you have finished detangling and applying product to your daughter's entire head, then you would just let her hair airdry. Also, while your daughter's hair is airdrying, definitely make sure that she does not fuss with it, as that too can cause frizz.

In the morning, you will just re-spray your daughter's hair all over with the Moist Curls. This is done to first refresh the hair after it has been slept on. Moist Curls is used to re-dampen the hair only. As, in no way should the hsair be left dripping wet after you have sprayed it with Moist Curls. Because if it is left dripping wet, then you have used to much. Now, after you have sprayed your daughter's hair with the Moist Curls then take about a minute to thoroughly massage it into your daughter's hair. Next, after doing that, you would of course apply the Custard to it (always making sure to throughly smooth it through). Because your daughter will be doing a lot of swimming, it wouldn't be best for her to wear her hair completely down. I would suggest instead that you brush her hair back into a ponytail or even into a bun. Now, for on those days that she won't be getting her hair wet in the pool, then I would advise you to allow her hair to be worn down instead. And, when you do let her hair be worn down, after applying the Custard, you would just fingerstyle your daughter's curls into place to finish off her naturally curly style.

Now, because your daughter swims everyday, that in itself does dry out he hair. So, I can definitely understand about your daughter's hair being very tangled and knotted by the end of the day. Therefore, the Radiant Ringlets would be a good product for you to also use in your daughter's hair. As, you can use it as a pomade in your daugter's hair to help slick it back with, to tame flyaways around her hairline and edges, as a hot oil treatment, and as a shine enhancer, and as a moisture sealant on the ends of her hair.

So, definitely don't be afraid to experiment with more Curly Q products in the future in your daughter's hair! As, I of course do use most of the Curls stylers in my hair. As, I like to switch up based on my hair's needs or styling preference for the day.

The Sampler Kits are a good way to do a quick jump start off into the CurlyQ or Curls line. However, I must add that they consist of 2 oz. sizes so the amount of usage that you will get with the products aren't alot. As, I feel that he Sample Kits are best for when you are traveling and you don't want to take your full-size products with you. But, anyways your daughter's hair should see a bit of a difference after using the sample sized products in her hair. And, then if all goes well, you can next move on to getting the full-sizes that would last you of course a lot longer.

Good luck!

Thanks... just got the sampler kit and the products smell wonderful! Just one question - the Curly Q Custard is only 1/2 full. The jar was sealed. Is that they way it's supposed to be?

The sample sized products are only designed to offer enough product for 1 or maybe 2 days worth of usage. As, in all honestly that really isn't all that much. So, maybe what's thrown you off a little. As, you may have been thinking that the amount of product that you would be getting would be slightly more perhaps.

I personally don't know how much product was put into the sample jar, as so many samples and even full-sized items are shipped out on a daily basis. But, I can tell you that Curls does it best to offer full customer satisfaction. As, Curls does have a customer service email address - customerservice@curls.biz that is readily available to answer any questions related to orders.

Good luck with the products and if you have any product application questions or concerns, then please don't hesitate to ask!

What threw me off is that the jar was only half full - I did not expect a sample size jar to be 1/2 full. I did expect to get small portions to allow me to sample the products. Perhaps smaller jars should be used as is done with the other products in the kit.
