Smile CurlyQ Custard Question

We are fairly new to the curlyq line (have been using them for about 2 months now). My daughter is biracial (black/white). She has super thick, super tight curls in the back, and softer, but still fairly tight curls in the front ( My best guess is she is a 3b-c) Anyway, with my latest purchase I got the custard because I felt like her curls needed more of something. I love it and am seeing her curls fall a bit more and we get stopped constantly when in public with positive comments about her hair. My question is- the directions on the website say to use the custard every other day, why is this? My daughter has very needy curls, because of the thickness, so on days that she is not getting washed, I have been spraying with the moist curls and then using the custard, but I don't want to over use if it will damage her hair. One other question- because of the extreme thickness in the back of her head the curls back there often clump together and get matted, is there anything I can do to help this? When my daughter's hair is wet it falls below her shoulders, but when dry it does not even touch her shoulders. Thanks in advance!

They say to use the custard every other day because your daughter might wear hair hair in a pontail on some days, which you would use the milkshake instead of the custard. NONE of the products of damaging in any way!

for her shrinkage problem try using this regimen.

On wash day, wash and deep condition (or regular condition if you only deep condition once a monlth) your daughter hair with the recommended products from th Curly Q's line (Curlie Cutie Cleansing Cream and Coconut Cream Conditioner) the coconut cream conitioner can be a deep conditioner as well, with or without out heat. After rinsing out the conditioner, section your daughter's hair off into 4 parts. Take down a section, spray it with Moist Curls Moisturizer, and then begin detangling that section always working from the bottom upwards. After detangling, proceed to braid that section. And, at the end of the braid make sure to put a twistie or scrunchie on it to keep the braid from coming loose. Now, once you have finished braiding the first section, then you just repeat the same practice over again-spray, detangle, braid. make sure they are tight enough to keep length. You can also put on a silk scarf before she goes to bed to protect her curls.

The next morning, you would take down the braids(your daughter should have less SHRINKAGE).Then spray a few sprays of Moist Curls Moisturizer all over your daughter's hair, making sure to spray her hair from the top working on down to the ends. Now, if you want to put your daughter's hair in a ponytail, apply about the size of a half dollar of the CurlyQ Milkshake to your daughter's hair (you can add more if your daughter's hair is very dry or relatively thick) and evenly distribute it all over your daughter's head. Lastly, you would comb the product through and then just pull your daughter's hair back into a ponytail and use a scrunchie or barrette to affix the ponytail into place. Another styling option would be a long single braid down her back(which would properly show full length). Also, you can let her wear her hair completely down, and just just replace the CurlyQ Milkshake with the Custard.

At night in between hairwashings, you would just simply take her hair out of the ponytail (if not in ponytail just simply follow the next step).Next simply place the child's hair in a low ponytail and braid the pony part(the hair that's hanging out of the scuchie) and she can wear a slik scarf to protect her hair if wanted, and she is off to bed! then in the morning follow the same procedure in the 2nd paragrapgh.

by following this regimin I am sure she with have pretty less shrinkage curls!.. just a note.. tangles may also cause shrinkange so make sure when detangling,to get all of the knots out! (if you have a hard to get through tangle which is less likely to happen...spray a little more of the curly Q's moisterizer/detangler on the knot and use your figers to seperate the knot.

happy curly!

Redmonds, it would certanly not be a problem if you used the CurlyQ Custard on your daughter's hair on a daily basis. Also, I would suggest getting a satin pillowcase for her to sleep on. Also, if your daughter can stand sleeping with a satin bonnet on her head at night, then you can do that instead of the satin pillowcase.

With curly hair, you can can expect to get a bit of shrinkage to curly hair after it dries. The best thing to do to help with shrinkage is wetbrushing. After you rinse the conditioner out of your daughter's hair, you would lightly blot her hair. After lightly blotting, you would then spray the child's hair all over or do it section by setion with the Moist Curls. After spraying it al over, you would take a section of your daughter's hair detangle with a 100 percent boar bristle brush and then apply the Custard to that particular section. You would then smooth the Custard through and then move on to another section and repeat the same process all over again. Now, if you choose to spray the Moist Curls instead instead section-you would just take a section of your daughter's hair at a time, spray it, detangle it, and then apply the Custard to it.
Once finished, you would just let your daughter's hair airdry. Now, it will shrink up a bit but the shrinkage should not be bad.

And, everyday in betweeen washings, you would just re-spray your daughter's hair with the Moist Curls and then apply the Custard to it.

The CurlyQ line of products have ingredients in them to promote healthy hair growth, yet in a natural way. The Curlie Cutie Cleansing Cream works well at cleansing the hair and it is sulfate free which is great for helping young children's hair to retain its natural moisture during the cleansing process. The Coconut Dream Conditioner is especially good for young children as it has deep conditioning and hydrating propertoes to it. The Moist Curls is the perfect liquid prep product for the CurlyQ proucts as it will allow the products to penetrate quickly and deeply almost instantly. The Milkshake acts as a lightweight curl hydrator and it has added smoothing and anti-frizz properties to it as well. And, the Custard is a more denser styling cream that will add optimal hydration and added weight to young curly hair types.

When it comes to detangling and elongating of curls you can use a wide-toothed comb or 100 percent boar bristle brush. Wide-toothed comb uses: to comb conditioner through your dauhter's hair, or to detangle while your daughter's hair is still soaking wet (after spraying it with the Moist Curls). Boar bristle brush uses: to detangle while your daughter's hair is still soaking wet (after spraying it with the Moist Curls) or to brush your daughter's hair back into a ponytail, bun, or even braids (only after applying product to it first).

And, I also suggest you getting either a satin pillowcase, scarf, or bonnet for you daughter to protect her hair from matting and excessive tangling while she sleeps at night.

Thank you for the advice! Last night I followed the regimine and sectioned, sprayed, and detangled each of the four sections, braiding each one. She also slept in her satin cap. She will wear one now, so I just need to be more consistent about putting it on her. I have only ever used a wide tooth comb on her hair, I am thinking maybe I should invest in the boar bristle brush. My daughter's curls were easier to work with this morning, Thanks again!

Here's other options for you:

Use the Radiant Ringlets after the Moist Curls for softness and shine (if you prefer no hold) and just softness and moisture. Or, you can use the Princess Glaze after the Moist Curls if you are someone who prefers added hold to yur curls.

hi, i have a feeling that most of the curlyQ products mirror the curls products pretty exactly, but which one is the equivelent of the curlyQ custard, the souffle or the whippedcream?

The Whipped Cream and Curly Q Custard both mirror each other benefit wise. So, If you are currenly using Curls Whipped Cream and want to get the Curly Q equivalent of this product then you would go with the Curly Q Custard.
