Rose, on day 4 and so forth, you would simply spray your hair with Curls Quenched and then apply your favorite styling product of choice afterwards (depending on your hair's needs for the day).

Now, you can opt to condition rinse your hair in between shampoos, if needbe. As, I know that the weather is getting warmer and warmer and only rinsing your air once a week might not be enough for some people. .

Soblessed, after day 2 my hair gets real frizzy at the front after a few hrs, even though I use the Euphoria Elixir. Is Curls coming out a gel that you can use on dry hair? Or can you suggest a good gel to use on dry hair?

Thanx,
Rose

Rose, what are all of the products that you normally use on your hair? And, how do you use them?

Now, for a curl-holding gel there's Curls Goddess Glaze. It gives maximum curl hold, added definition, and frizz protection. I personally don't use any typical gels in my hair to style it with at this time. As, I prefer to use creams or lotions in my hair now because they leave my hair feeling mich softer. Now, if you are someone that doesn't mind using a gel that would give your curls lots of hold to it, then the Curls Goddess Glaze would definitely be best for you to use. However, if you would like to use more of a soft holding gel to help keep frizz at bay, then using an activator type gel would be your best bet. Two good activator gels that I have personally tried are Proclaim's Curl and Wave Activator Gel (Sally's) or Smooth N Shine's Curl Activator Gel (Can be found practically in every store).

And, when it comes to using any gel, remember to start out with lesser amounts and then add slightly more amounts if necessary. As, your are trying to give your curls more of tamed and frizz free look with out making it look plasticy (too stiff and coated) w/ typical gels or greasy (overly weighed down) w/activator gels.

Hi - Greetings from the UK ,

This is my first post here. Apologies if I have put this in the wrong place!!!

I have different textures in my shoulder length hair. Tight curls that are dry/course around the sides and back of my hair and looser waves and curls everywhere else.
I have been using the Curls Milkshake, Souffle and the Curls Quenched Moisturiser which I do like because out of everything I have tried so far, these have worked the best. I was wondering if I have the combination right, because I find that I have to use a lot of milkshake and when my hair dries, it has like a dryish powdery finish/residue also my curls tend to shrink as well, but I wanted them elongated. I would love to wear my hair out but find that when my hair is dry it gets thicker and "poofy", so find it easier to twist my hair.
Can anyone help me on this.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Flower

Welcome Flower!

I am not 100 percent sure but it seems like you have Type 4 curls around the sides and back of your hair, while you have Type 3 curls everywhere else on your head.

Now, whenever you do use Curls Milkshake or any of the other styling creams always start off with smaller amounts. Also, before putting them on always make sure that you hair has been thoroughly dampened all over with Curls Quenched Moisturizer first. As, this will allow any of the Curls styling creams to penerate quicker and deeper in a faster amount of time than without.

Don't worrry, as when I first started using Curls Whipped Cream and Souffle after they had first came out I did experiment with using them on dry hair. And, that ended up giving me poor results with my hair looking shrunken and white spots of product still visible in my hair. So, I have learned never to do that again. As, I always make sure that whenever I use Curls Milkshake, Curls Whipped Cream, or even Curls Souffle goes on thoroughly dampened hair first.

Curls Souffle acts like a curl activating product in my hair, which means that it gives me some shrinkage because of how curl defining it is. Now, Curls Milkshake can be used as either a moisturizer or styling cream. So, if it doesn't work for you as an all-in one styling product then using it as a leave-in moisturizer (at night) would be your next step. Which means, you woud take a small amount of Curls Milkshake (you do not have to spray Curls Quenched first), emulsify it slightly between your fingers in order to help warm it up and then make sure to even distribute it all over your head. And, be sure to thoroughly smooth it through, in order to avoid having any left over white residue visible in your head.

You can try using Curls Whipped Cream and see that product works for your hair. As, it does help with stretching out one's curl to an extent and it is designed to work for twisting the hair as well. Now, it is the most moisturizing product that Curls makes, so being heavy handed with this product is a definite no-no. I am a 3B and I can use any of the creams in my hair as it is naturally very dry and I have both medium and thick (coarse) curls on my head. The two styling products that I use the most out of the Curls line is Curls Whipped Cream and Curls Milkshake. And, now that the weather is warmer, I still do use Curls Whipped Cream but not as much as I do Curls Milkshake. And, when I do use either product I use them as stand alone stylers. But, I personally know that with Curls Milkshake not all curlies will be able to use this product as a stand alone styler. As, there are ceertainly other curlies who have used this product as a leave-in moisturizer and have had success doing so.

Overall, I would suggest that you try tweaking your regimen like I have suggested and see how well that works out for you.

I use the quencher, milkshake/whipped cream on a daily basis, on dry hair. I use the quencher and the whipped cream, wait 5 mins and then use the goddess glaze when I wash my hair. I then let it air dry if I can or use a diffuser for about 15mins. I am from the UK, so don't know if i will be able to get those gels that you have suggested. I am however going to Toronto in July so will look out for these products out there.

Rose, good luck on your trip in July to Toronto!

Thanks for supplying me with a list of all of the products that you use on your har. As, this was very helpful. Now, since you do have experience using Curls Goddess Glaze, and you still want to experiment with using other gels to see how they may perform in your hair, then it is totally okay and certainly understandable.

Now activator or other moisturizing gels can surely give you a sleeker look around the hairline and help with frizz. They do offer moisture and controlability to curly hair, however they don't offer much hold. So if that is okay with you, then trying them out is certainly worth a shot.

And, even if can't locate either of the gels mentioned (in my earlier post), then just look out for any gel that contains the word "moisturizing" listed in its product description and offers more of a soft, natural hold to it as well. Also, make sure that any gel that you do purchase does not contain "alcohol" or "pvp" in it. As, these are two known ingredients that will defintely rob your hair of moisture in a huge way.

Thanks for that soblessed,
I do try to make sure my hair is damp, but I think I may have been using too much of the Souffle and Milkshake and not putting enough Quenched Moisturiser. So will try what you said and also invest in a spray bottle as I find that the Quenched bottle comes out as a stream which makes it difficult to distribute.

Thank you once again.

Question

I tried to do the quench moisturizer on my second day but my hair is just to thick for that, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I was washing my hair every other day and I leaving it untied when I went to sleep, so I guess that contributed to my hair breakage and drying out. I ordered the satin bonnet and I wear that every night but my curls still tangle a little but not as much as before. I figured that the tangling is just natural since my curls are so tight. But at least my hair is no longer as dry as it once was ( I love my Curls products.) I was also wondering, if you should only detangle your curls once a week what should you do for the other 6 days?

I'm only wondering since I am trying to do right by my hair and since I have started using Curls I have noticed that my hair looks way better than it ever has

So if anyone out there can help me I will thank you for life and so will my hair

LissaJ, are you just using the Curls Quenched Moisturizer to style your hair with inbetween washes or do you combine it with something else? Because, with thick hair you would need to use more than just the Curls Quenched for styling purposes. As, first you would spray your hair with the Curls Quenched and then apply one of the Curls styling creams over it.

I have Type 3b medium-to-thick curls and I honestly rarely use just Curls Quenched alone in my hair in between wash days. As, I always combine Curls Quenched with one of the Curls cream stylers.

Also, I only detangle my hair once a week at the most. As, I detangle my hair only when its wet. And, in between hair washes, I fingercomb my curls instead of using a comb or brush.

Oh, and you can do conditioner rinses on your hair in between your next shampoo
day. As, this will allow you the opportunity to midly cleanse and condition your hair and that should in turn help more in decreasing the amount of tangling that you get.

B.T.W. Wearing a satin bonnet to bead is always a great thing to do to protect curly hair overnight. So, I am glad that you are protecting your hair correctly at night.
