Hair curls with a relaxer

Hello, how is everyone? I have a question, when you just got a relaxer and your hair still curls, what exactly does that mean, I thought relaxers make your hair bone straight, but when i wash my hair, and moisture it and use spray moisturizer, no moouse, no gel, no hair spray, my hair curls, it's not tight curls, but more like wavy, loose S curls. Can anyone tell me why this happens? I have 3c/4a hair type without a relaxer and with a relaxer I have 3a hair type. Thanks to all who respond.

Well, PrettyFlyLady, I know exactly what you are talking about. After you rinse out the relaxer, your hair isn't bone straight but instead it has loose curly or wavy texture to it. Now, this is typically how the hair comes out if you just let it airdry after relaxing it. However, if you were to use direct heat (flat iron, pressing comb, etc.) then you would see the relaxed hairs cuticles lie completely straight.


After a chemical relaxer is applied to the hair, the hair begins to soften so that the chemical can penetrate to loosen and relax one's natural curl. So, when ever you use a relaxer in your hair it is merely loosening one's natural curl. The extent of how much it does so is purely based on the strength of the relaxer. But, even if you use a "Super" Strength Relaxer, after you rinse it out your hair will still have some wavy or curliness to it. As, getting hair bone straight is not a one-step process. The relaxer of course is step number one. But, it is the blow-drying, along with the flatironing or pressing that really makes one's hair look completely bone straight after it has been relaxed.
