Default Help for dry curls

Good morning! I am a 4 a/b (I think), my last relaxer touch up was in Feb 09, and my hair is frizzy and poufs as it dries. I also live in Florida, where it is very humid, and that affects my hair greatly. Thus the reason I am going curly. I am new to the curls line, and this week I received the sample kit and tried it. I used the cleansing cream and sublime conditioner, as well as the quenched curls and curl souffle' that came in the kit. But my hair is still very dry and feels hard on the ends after using the souffle'. I added more quenched curls moisturizer, but it's still very dry, and I have about half the sample bottle left. Should I switch to a heavier styler, like the gel-les' c, or the whipped cream, or did I do something wrong? Also, should my hair be almost dripping wet when I start applying products?

Welcome to the CURLS Forum!!

People of color have hair that is naturally very dry. And, this is why, African-American, African, and Biracial individuals must infuse their hair with more moisture on a daily basis than say someone that is Caucasian instead.

There are no products out there that can totally eliminate natural, inherited dryness to the hair. However, a product line like CURLS can definitely help to provide temporary moisturization and get the hair to retain more moisture to it long-term as well. Now, I see that you got one of the sample kits. And, I want you to know that for your hair to gain noticeable temporay as well long-term moisturization benefits, your hair would need more than the small 2 ounces of product that are in the sample kits.

Anyone that has long, quite thick, or dense hair would go through 2 ounces of product in a very short time. Now, I don't have a picture of your hair to see how long, thick, or dense it is. And, without a picture I can't accurately review your hair for a hairtyping either. As, it has only been a few months since your last relaxer, and even though you do have newgrowth, you still have a lot of relaxed hair that is still on your head.

Two ounces of products goes up very quickly. Therefore, if you have hair that is quite long, noticeably thick, dense, or severely dry then your hair would certainly need more product for it to be maintained for even a few days than what 2 ounces could provide. And, you definitely would need to be able to have product that you could continuously use from. As, after you run out of product, then you don't have any more product left to put in your hair and that can be a problem. Also, being paired up with the right products for your hair is very important as well.

With any product, your hair has to form a union with the products being used on it for you to most clearly get the best results that you can from it. Hair doesn't form a perfect union with a new product in 1 day, a few days, or even a week. Because everyone's hair's needs are different, it can take anywhere between 1-3 months before you start seeing prominent results to your begin to come into play. But, as weeks go you can start to expect gradual results that will start accumulating into more long-term bigger results. But, you have to consistently use the right products for your hair and stay committed to the new regimen as well.

Thanks for the information. I kinda figured I didn't have enough product for my thick hair. And after watching brownbarbie's u-tube video, I know now that I don't have NEARLY enough product for a great outcome in those samples. I am going to order large bottles of the products, and see how that works. And, I think I am going to try the whipped cream instead of the souffle. It worked on bronwbarbie's hair, and her hair looks similar to mine - in curliness and thickness. Hopefully, I can post some pics later.

The video in which you speak of can be found under the Customer Tutorials Videos Thread located in the CURLS Demos section of the CURLS forum.

Good morning again!
Can I just tell you that I LOVE THIS STUFF!! I did my hair again last night, but I applied the products like the demo video. Not only did I have enough of what was left of my SAMPLE products, but I got a great result this morning. My hair didn't shrink up like it normally does (especially from the root), the curls have definition, and they are soft to the touch. My hair is still dry, so I did order the whipped cream, which I will use sparingly compared to how I used the souffle'. But other than that, i can't wait until my products come! The next things I am planning to order are the gel-les-c and the tea conditioner.

Thanks so much for these products!! And all the information available on how to apply them!

Glad to hear of your good news!! And, just remember, that the longer you use the products, the better your hair will benefit from them in the long term. So, believe me, when I say that the best is still yet to come with your hair!!
