Default A little about us

My name is Kristen I have a Beautiful 4 year old daughter who's name is Sierrah. Her hair is this beautiful mass of tight ringlet curls that is three different shades ranging from dark to light blonde. I love doing her hair and trying new things with it. She has come upon an age where she is not as happy with her hair as I am. She is noticing that it is different than her friends and cousins. "mommy, I want my hair on my back!" I love letting her wair it down and curly, and try to do it often. The problem is that the next day it is so dried out and notted that we have had to limit how often her hair was styled like this. I have done alright up to this point with the hair styles. I can braid, twist and many other up do's but she wants her long hair to hang down on her back like she sees other peoples. But she is at an age that she wants it to be perfect as well (drama queen ha ha ) So I will do it for her and try to do what she wants but I dont want to damage her hair because I know that in the long run the effects will be worse and worse.
So..... I am open to any tips, product suggestions, whatever you can toss my way. I have tried some new moisturizers and stuff but I am always ready to take advice from someone with ideas I have not tried. I appreciate all the help I can get but....
I really dont care to hear that I need to teach her to love it..I am trying, I never give her negetivity towards her hair, I try to make it fun and enjoyable doing her hair...

*I really do NOT mean to come off rude but the comments that I have recieved in response to her not being happy with it have been rediculious. She does not know any other children with hair like hers Soooo therefore anyone with a child at this stage knows they want to see others like themselves.... She will get through it but I am trying to keep that innocent, care free child mentality as long as I can...*

I am looking for tips and Ideas that will help her hair stay untangled, moisturized, managable and as beautiful as I know it is. I want her to see that it is so much more beautiful than she thinks. She is very patient and loves to sit down and let me do her hair. She never complains about how long she is sitting there and if by chance she wants to be done (time allowing) I let her go play until she is ready to take another run at it. I am trying to make it a positive expirence for her in every way possible. Thanks in advance for the interest in my daughter and the time to share your hair care tips and tricks with me!!

Welcome Kristen! I am so glad that you joined the forum. As, this is a perfect place for you to get the right advice on how to properly care for your little one's hair.

The CurlyQ line of products would be perfect for your daughter's hair. To keep your daughter's curls soft, tamed, and moisturized, I suggest trying either the CurlyQ Milkshake or Custard or even both. The Milkshake is a lightweight cream that will naturally, hydrate, soften, and relax your child's curls. It gives a light hold only. While, the Custard is a thick, rich cream provides perfect definition, weight, and moisturization. It gives a medium hold only. And, both product are designed to help with frizz, which is a problem with most curlytypes.

Also, the CurlyQ Moist Curls Moisturizer is necessary when using any of the CurlyQ stylers as it acts as the perfect prep/base product.

For a finishing product, I would suggest you trying Radiant Ringlets. As, it is a perfect curl glosser that you can use on top of one of the CurlyQ stylers or on its own.

Now, for the perfect curly hair cleanser and conditioner, I would suggest using CurlyQ Cutie Cleansing Cream and Coconut Dream Conditioner.

And, I suggest you getting a wide-toothed comb and 100 percent boar bristle brush for detangling. Once a week, you would shampoo and condition your daughter's hair. After rinsing out the conditioner, lightly blot away any extra drippies coming from your daughter's hair. Never vigorously rub your daughter's hair dry. As, it is best to apply products after conditioning to the head, while the hair is still wet. This is especially important as this helps to lock in moisture and lock out frizz.

Next, you would sprays about 5-7 sprays of the Moist Curls all over your daughter's head. Next, you section your daughter's hair off into approximately 4 sections using clips. After doing that, you take down one section, begin detangling it with the wide toothed comb (always making sure to start from the bottom and work your way up to the top) and apply styling product to it next (making sure to thoroughly smooth it through. Afterwards, you would braid that section and affix a ponytail holder on the ends of it to keep the braid from coming loose. When you have finished wrapping the ponytail holder around the bottom of the braid, you just move on to the next section and repeat the whole process: Detangle-Apply Product-Braid.

Now, if you get to a section that has started to dry out, you would just spray about 2-3 sprays more to re-wet it.

The next morning, you would just take down the braids, and apply a little bit more of Moist Curls to refreshen her curls, take a small-moderate amount of styling product (based upon your daughter's hair length and thickness) and apply it to the hair always making sure it is throughly smoothed through. Next, let the product absorb for about a minute or two and take about the size of a dime of the Radiant Ringlets and rub it betwen your fingers. Lastly, rub it over your daughter's hair and/or hairline) to smooth down any flyaways and for shine purposes.

Now, if you do choose to put your daughter's hair in a bun or ponytail, take the Moist Curls spray and do a few squirts of it all over your daughter's head. Next, take one of the CurlyQ stylers I recommended and apply it all over your daughter's hair evenly (making sure to throughly smooth it through with your fingers). Lastly, you would take the 100% boar bristle brush and brush your daughter's hair back into a ponytail or bun. And, if you'd like you can take a little bit of the Radiant Ringlets and use it to smooth back any flyaways around the hairline and nape.

Also, when the weather gets realy hot and humid out you can opt to do doing conditioner rinses (at night) or possibly mid-week only. As, the head does happen to sweat more during late Spring all the way thru Summer. And, you may find that only rinsing your daughter's hair once a week may not be enough. So, definitely daily or midweek conditioner rinses can be done. But, always remember to shampoo (thoroughly cleanse) your daughter's hair once a week as recommended for all curly girls.

I don't know what products you are currently using on your daughter's hair, but if you feel pretty good about them then you can just take the tips that I have offered and apply them to the products you are already using. As, hopefully, you are already using a leave-in detangling & moisturizing spray, styling cream, and/or finishing product on your daughter's hair already. However, if you are interested in trying a new line of products that will work to improve the moisture level in your daughter's hair, make detangling much easirer, and better tame and smooth her curls, than the CurlyQ line would be great for that.

Good luck!

Thank you do much for the wonderful and detailed advice. I am seeking a new product line so I will be purchasing these items that you recomended and we can not wait to try them. It feels so good to have somewhere to trun for answers to the questions that people do not know. I can not tell you haw many times I have brought up the issue of her hair and people just think you can go buy the typical "whatever" cleaning and styling products. They do not realize how important it is to fine a "good" line to ensure that the hair is healthy and managable!! THANK YOU!!

Smile I'm in the same boat as you!

Hi Kristen!!!!!!!!!!!
I joined the forum a few days ago after a family member gave me the rest of her products because her daughter insisted on a relaxer and wearing her hair straight EVERYday. My 8 year old (Kennedi) sounds just like your daughter. Thank you so much for asking the question!!! We live in Southwest Louisiana where it is humid pretty much year round-it causes major bad hair days all around. Kennedi's hair will be tangled the next day like Sierrah's hair. There isn't a cap or scarf that can last the night on her head as bad as she sleeps. It takes forever to try and recomb her hair so she doesn't look like a mop!!! She is so heartbroken when I do have to put it up. She doesn't think its fair that she has long hair like the other girs, but has to always wear in up!! I will have to the sacrifice, breakdown and rinse and condition her hair everyday. Thanks again for asking the question!!!! I will definately following the techniques given in the reply!!!! Good luck and God bless!!!!!

Alana
