I am 42 yrs and have been wearing my hair curly for 15 years. Against naysayer opinions, I wear my free and wild, like Rachal True. I was amazed at my friends discouraging words on my decision to wear my hair permanently curly. I found that no one supported or understood my decision. At that time, there were not many hair products on the market to address various hair textures. I live in NYC in which you can almost purchase anything. In my early stages of wearing curly hair, salons would and could not want to handle my curly hair. All the while trying to convince me to once again "relax my curls". I was more determined to prove them wrong about curly hair. I found a salon dedicated to address curly hair needs, and fell in love with my hair all over again.
Now those days are behind me, I wear my curls with confidence. (Even in a corporate job and conservative office). I amazed how often I am stopped by women who compliment me on my curly hair. On occasion I blow out my curls and wear my hair straight. I am told that I look sooooooo different to others that I choose not to do that too often. My curly locs fit my personality.
